It's back to school at UNK, and one noticeable change is an increased number of bikes both whizzing by and parked in the racks.

Paul Talbert, co-owner of The Bike Shed has been biking for about 25 years, and it wasn't until recently that he has seen this much interest in biking.

"We have seen an increase in bike sales ever since gas keeps inching its way up," he said. "Repairs and add-on sales increased especially this summer. People were buying bags and things like that to carry groceries."

The reason for the switch to riding bicycles can range from gas savings to health. For students on campus, convenience seemed to be the most popular answer.

Brandon Oseka, a senior broadcasting major from Kearney, said, "I live only a few blocks away, so it is a lot easier for me to ride my bike instead of having to find a parking spot."

The parking issue is still on student's minds, and with a bike, front row parking is always a possibility.
