Each year there is an appreciation day for just about everything: Presidents' Day, Mothers' Day, Teacher Appreciation Day and so on. But to get more than a day, a whole week for that matter, that's pretty special.

During Greek Week, April. 5 through April 10, teams made up of different chapters competed against each other for bragging rights.

This year, however, was different. With a new greek advisor, new things were in store to turn the traditional Greek Week upside down.

"I just wanted the chapters to experience a different kind of Greek Week this year. I had so many ideas it kept me up at night," Greek Advisor Tracy Lungrin said.

Lungrin came up with "Down and Dirty" games: powder puff football, tug o' war, slip 'n' slide and human paintbrush. A Greek rally, fully equipped with a car smashing, took place too.

"I thought the week was awesome! Definitely one of the best Greek Weeks I had taken part in," Holdrege junior and pre-med major Cory Shield said.

"I wanted the kids to do something good for the community while having fun. I wanted to do something that had never been done before."

"New and exciting is what they did," Lundgrin said.

Before the chapter members were even thinking about Greek Week, Lungrin worked hard. She contacted the Buckle and asked them to team up with the Greeks to raise money for a good cause.

Lundgrin started with the idea that the Buckle's charity is the United Way. Lungrin asked the Buckle for their help and product to put on a fashion show. Her idea was similar to "America's Next Top Model."

"I was certain that these kids could raise some money and have a blast doing it. Each chapter has their own philanthropy, so putting them all together I knew they were bound to be successful," Lungrin said.

To save the best for last, the Fashion Show was held on the last day of Greek Week in the Health and Sports Center. Complete with a runway, photographer and a spotlight, the arena was transformed into a real fashion show venue.

The models showed off the hot trends of Buckle while the academy awards were given out.

When the show was over, the money counted and the clothes all given back to the Buckle the final results were in. The Greek community raised and donated $500 to the United Way.

"We were so proud to give United Way UNK's donation. Those kids had fun, modeled off cool clothes and raised money for a good cause," Buckle area manager Jason Downing said.

Greek week turned upsidedown? Many would say so.

"It was definitely the week Zeus got loose!" Lungrin said.
