"We really wanted to end Greek Week with a bang, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity," said Panhellenic President Sarah Mach, a sophomore interior design major from Fairbury.
End with a bang, they did. The awards night was very similar to the Grammy's or MTV Awards, containing a multimedia presentation complete with an excerpt from "Zoolander."
Strutting down the runway to songs like "Sexy Back" "Poker Face" and "Hot Stuff," greeks rocked the stage with their best "blue steel" in hopes to win the top model award. Five judges, including newly elected Student Body President Cade Craig, determined the top model couple. At the conclusion of the show, audience members voted who they thought did the best catwalk by making donations in the model's bucket.
"I loved getting up there and performing. It was a real adrenaline rush," Daniel Poly, a sophomore organizational communication major from Omaha said. "I managed to raise $30."
Winners J.T. Jelkin, representing Phi Gamma Delta, and Paige Wewel, representing Chi Omega, were named top model couple at the end of the night.
A lot of planning and coordinating went into the making of the awards night fashion show.
"We have joked for the past couple months that this is my wedding. That's how much planning we have done," greek adviser Tracy Lungrin said. "We have everything except for flowers."
Lungrin later received flowers for the "wedding" as a thank you from the greeks for all of her hard work throughout the year.
Planning began in mid-January after the newly elected Panhellenic and Interfraternity Counsels came back from a retreat. Lungrin and her committee of fashion show masterminds included Molly Scheffield of The Buckle, Ryan Wetovick, Madeline Mawby and the members of Order of Omega, a Greek honorary society.
Sigma Phi Epsilon swept the awards, taking home three columns for their outstanding achievements in philanthropy, scholarship programming and house improvement. Their chapter's advisor was named Outstanding Advisor, and Brian Hying, a Sig-Ep member, was named Greek Man of the Year. Winners of Greek Week were Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Omicron Pi and Lambda Theta Nu.
"My favorite part of the night was definitely the performance of "Single Ladies" by Mason Doughty, Brad Green, Andy Greer and Criss Salinas," Ryan Wetovick, a sophomore physical education major from Eustis said.
