Following a successful season last year, the Loper Men's Golf Team is ready to get back on the links to prove that last year was not a fluke.

Last year, as the season came to an end and everyone was getting ready to leave for the summer, the men's golf team was competing in a regional tournament in California.

Max Hadenfeldt, a junior from Gering, said he had many good things to build on and take into this new season.

"Last year was a very good learning experience, and it helped to better understand what we can look forward to this year," Hadenfeldt said. "It was good to get our feet wet and experience what a big tournament is like so we will know what to expect coming into this season."

Justin Onken, a junior from Omaha, agreed with Hadenfeldt and added that one of the most important things to concentrate on is the RMAC tournaments.

"It's always important to finish in the top 20 as a team to ensure a good finish at the end of the season," Onken said.

"Making it back to the regional will be our main goal, which we will work towards all season to make it another successful year," said Onken.

The team opened play on the Sept. 8 and 9 in Gothenburg, where they took two teams of 10 golfers per team.

Each team was successful in finishing second, and they are looking for more success throughout the season.

The women's golf team will also be looking for the same type of success this season.

Although the team is very young with only one returning senior in Megan Marshall of Kearney, the golfers will be working towards the same goal of winning.

The rest of the team includes Thea Baum of Norfolk, Kelsey Beckenback of Lincoln, Emily Carlson of Grant, Nicole Erwin of Norfolk, Mami Stuart of Beatrice and Sara Wissing of Hastings.

Coaching the team this year will be co-head coaches Elizabeth and Chad Lydiatt.

The women kicked off their season at the RMAC Crossover Sept. 15 and 16 in Scottsbluff.
As both teams swing into the season, they will be looking for one common goal: a National Championship.
