Shopaholic too girly to handle |

"Confessions of a Shopaholic" is what I would call a normal chick flick. It has major shopping, a cute guy and a love theme. I saw this movie on Valentine's Day and was, therefore, already grossed out by the love aspects of the movie. In general it wasn't very good.
This movie is a prime example of why you should not have credit cards and remember to never drink and submit a job application.
Isla Fisher played Rebecca Bloomwood, a woman in much debt for her shopping habits who applies to a finance magazine by mistake instead of her dream fashion magazine.
Well, in an expected plot, she finds that she does well at her unexpected job and wins acclaim from her colleagues for writing a piece tying her addiction to fashion with finance.
I am going to start by saying I really do like a chick flick every once in a while. People can learn a lot about the opposite sex in movies that focus on love, but I found "Confessions of a Shopaholic" rather boring and predictable. I don't think it helped that this movie was released in such a bad economy that people have trouble relating to the character. You can't really make fun of the idea of debt at a time like this.
Rebecca finds her love interest at work, and he knows his fashion just like she does. The connection is believable on screen, which helps the story move along. Rebecca dreams of working for her favorite fashion magazine because one of her ideas to help her addiction is to get paid more. She tries cutting back on her shopping, but something always seems to come up that prevents her from saving.
Rebecca wears some amazing clothes, which I found fun and interesting. The wardrobe stylist for this movie is also the stylist for "Sex and the City," so the outfits were out of control to say the least, bright colors with designer labels.
So surprise, surprise, as always, the books are better. I suggest reading a bit, and you will get more of a connection with the character.
I would give this movie a two of five stars and suggest watching just to see the fun designer clothes. It just came at a bad time for most Americans.
