The UNK Health and Sports Arena will be rocking out to the music of major artists Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Secondhand Serenade on Saturday, April 18. Students can now pre-purchase up to two tickets for $10 each at the Welcome Desk in the Nebraskan Student Union. General admission to the concert is $20.
The line-up will also guarantee a third band - unnamed at press time - to open the show.
Originally, a Chicago band, The Audition, was scheduled as the opening act, but a conflict occurred and they will not participate.
The Loper Programming and Activities Council (LPAC) presents a concert every other spring as their major entertainment event for the semester.
Two years ago, LPAC coordinated a concert that brought country music stars Chris Cagle and Julie Roberts to the stage.
"They were good but not as popular as the line-up for this year's concert," said LPAC President Danen Rundle, a senior business administration major from Logan, Kan.
LPAC administered a survey to students living on campus in order to narrow down their options based on budget and student opinion. The survey results showed students were in favor of a
switch from country music to alternative, rock and acoustic sounds.
"LPAC is really excited to have popular bands coming to UNK this year. It's really cool because Secondhand Serenade has a hit record with a lot of airplay so everyone knows them," Rundle said.
She is correct; both artists have a lot going on with their music right now.
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, headlining the show, will perform singles from their Feb. 2 sophomore release "Lonely Road," which debuted on Billboard's Hot 200 at number 14 two weeks ago.
"Fall For You," Secondhand Serenade's hit single can be heard on Hits 106 several times a day. The single comes from the sophomore album "A Twist in my Story" released Feb. 18, 2008. "A Twist in my Story" currently sits at number 32 on Billboard's Top 100 Independent Albums list.
LPAC hopes to have an audience of 3,000- 4,000 people in the Health and Sports Arena on April 18.
