Tell Me About Yourself…
This assignment is designed to introduce you to speaking in front of your peers on something you know better than anything else…yourselves! The speeches must contain information that would familiarize students with one another. For example, you may talk about the three most important people or objects in your lives. Or, you can talk about some interesting fact about yourself (you’ve broken ten different bones; you are double jointed, you are adopted, etc.). You can also compare yourself to an object or animal in order to describe your personality. Or, you may simply speak about different milestones in your life, different aspects of your personality, your background, etc. The possibilities are endless….but the speech must be about you!
We will be using the basic concepts we have talked about in class to structure our speeches. Each speech will need to be between 2-3 minutes long, and should contain an introduction with an appropriate attention getter. The speech will need to contain three main points with transitions, as well as a conclusion that wraps up the entire speech. Three 3×5 note cards are permissible. An outline of your speech must be turned in on the day you speak. We have not discussed visual aids yet, but you may bring pictures or other objects to incorporate into your speeches. ANY VISUAL AID (PICTURES, OBJECTS, ETC) MUST BE APPROVED BY THE TEACHER PRIOR TO YOUR ASSIGNED SPEAKING DATE!!!
