Designing a questionnaire or survey
OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to design an audience survey or questionnaire to assist in their speech writing.
MATERIALS: Paper and pen.
STEPS:
- Discuss with the students the use of questionnaires in speech writing. As a class, pick a topic and brainstorm what a speaker would want to know from the audience before writing the speech.
- Using the three forms of questions, work as a class to prepare a short survey.
- Open-ended questions (What do you know about…)
- Closed-ended questions (Should there be capital punishment?)
- Degree (strongly agree – strongly disagree)
- Have each student pick a topic and write a questionnaire. Have them exchange with another student and take the survey.
- Remind the students to keep it short.
RESULT: Students will prepare a survey to use to aid in their speech design.
