What Can We Do With Rhetorical Questions?
TOPIC: Rhetorical Question Introduction
OBJECTIVE: Given topics, students will be able to correctly write two rhetorical question introductions.
MATERIALS: Pen/pencil and paper. Instructor needs two topic ideas per student folded up to draw.
STEPS:
1. Discuss rhetorical questions in an introduction.
2. Have students draw two previously picked topics from a hat.
3. Have students write a rhetorical question with an answer as the first sentence in an introduction for that topic along with two extra sentences to finish the introduction.
4. With the other topic drawn, have students write a two sentence introduction with a rhetorical question with an answer as the end sentence leading to the body of the speech.
5. As a class or small groups, read introductions and discuss.
RESULTS: Students will be able to write a rhetorical question introduction. Students will use this technique for one of their required speeches.
