Your assignment is to prepare a ten minute speech to interpret three types of literature: poetry, prose and drama. You are to pick a theme and use it to find three pieces of literature that you can combine into a cohesive presentation. This assignment will be worth a total of 33 points towards your final grade and is due next Monday. Use the following information and the rubric to assist you in your work.
When choosing your material, be sure to use only published materials with an ISBN number. Do not use any works you have written yourself. You may not change any of the pieces when cutting, unless you are deleting an offensive word or phrase.
Remember to include an introduction with an attention getter, and to use transitions to tie the three pieces together to unify the theme. The introduction will be important in helping your audience understand your theme and what you are presenting. It should probably about a minute in length and should set the stage for your performance.
You may not use props or costumes, and the material should be memorized. Use the rubric to make sure you fulfill all of the requirements. Remember, make it entertaining for the audience!

Interpretation of 3 Types of Literature
(Poetry, Prose, Drama)
You are going to pick out three types of literature pieces: one poem, one prose – which will consist of a short story or novel, and one drama – which is a play. These three pieces of literature must be connected by a theme. The theme can be anything you want; examples: sports, death, love, memories, hobbies, etc. You will have to edit these literature pieces, possibly all three, to fit into the time limit of 6 – 7 minutes. When you edit, you want to pick the most striking part of the piece to really grab or sustain the audiences’ attention.
You may use books to present with, and those will be provided for by me. Need three different authors, you cannot pick three pieces from the same author – I want you to explore and really research by reading many people and picking your theme carefully. You can put your three types of literature in any order. The assignment is due in two weeks.
