Internal Preview

Internal preview

OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to use internal previews in their speeches to inform or clarify to the audience their next point or points.

MATERIALS: An envelope with cards listing subject matter and an envelope containing cards stating either “Word”, “Phrase” or “Sentence.”

STEPS:
1) Discuss the use of word, phrase or sentence transitions to make internal previews with the class.
2) Create several examples with the class.
3) Have the students take turns drawing from the subject matter and type of transition envelopes and create internal previews. For example, if the student drew the subject “chicken salad” and “sentence”, they could say “I will now tell you about several ways to use chicken salad.”

RESULT: Students will check their speeches for internal previews and add them if necessary.
